Introducción:
- Cada uno de los apóstoles tenía una característica predominante de carácter. En Pablo era la fe; en el apóstol Juan era el amor, sin embargo no fue Juan quien habló de su gracia especial. La razón de esto es que, si Pablo hubiera exaltado solamente la fe, y Juan solo el amor, podríamos haber pensado que la discreción de cada uno fue guiada por sus características personales. Pero cuando el apóstol describe los dones como nada en comparación con el amor, no nos queda ninguna duda de porque el amor es necesario, porque es importante.
- Pablo introduce el capítulo del amor con estas palabras; “Procurad pues los dones mejores, pero yo os nuestro el camino más excelente” – 1 Cor. 12:31. El camino al cual Pablo se refiere aquí, es el estilo de vida que está controlado y se caracteriza por el amor. “Este capítulo 13, es el que más duramente prueba al hombre bueno, y lo prueba más que quizá cualquier otro capítulo del NT”. La razón, es que este capítulo se sitúa detrás de todo lo que hacemos; pues el amor dirige nuestros motivos.
I: El amor es esencial para la manera de vivir de los cristianos.
- Tres declaraciones de Pablo concerniente al amor.
- “Si yo hablase lenguas humanas y angélicas, y no tengo caridad, vengo a ser como metal que resuena, o címbalo que retiñe” – V. 1.
- a) Aunque yo hablase el lenguaje de todos los hombres, incluso el lenguaje de los ángeles pero no tengo amor, vengo a ser como metal (una trompeta) que resuena, o címbalo (platillo resonante) que retiñe. La trompeta hace un gran ruido de mucha importancia, pero sin ninguna vitalidad. El címbalo o el sonido de un gong, es monótono y cuando este sonido se prolonga, llega a ser insoportable para el oído humano. Aprendemos que cuando se dice algo sin amor, aun cuando se diga en la forma más elocuente, lo que se dice es vacío y sin sentido. Todo sería vacío, e inútil, no podría salvarme a mí ni a otros. «Amor es el principio vital; es eso sin lo cual, todas las habilidades nos hacen venir a ser inútiles y vanos». Por el contrario, el amor produce resultados perdurables; 13.
- “Y si tuviese el don de profecía, y entendiese todos los misterios y toda ciencia; y si tuviese toda la fe, de tal manera que trasladase los montes, y no tengo caridad, nada soy” – V. 2.
- a) Pablo usa en este texto la palabra tener tres veces, el compara el amor con algo que los corintios ya tenían. En 12:31 Pablo hablo de los mejores done y aquí los identifica; El don de hablar en lenguas, el don de profecía, el don del conocimiento, y si tuviere toda la fe. En consecuencia el compara el amor con la habilidad de tener los dones mejores, pero si aunque solo tuviera uno de ellos pero no tengo amor, nada soy. Todo no tendría ningún valor, no me salvaría, todavía sería un pecador no redimido, no perdonado. No podría hacer el bien a nadie; no podría responder a ninguno de los grandes propósitos que Dios ha diseñado; Por lo tanto, todo sería en vano con respecto al gran propósito de mi existencia. Incluso si tengo uno de los mejores de todos los dones milagrosos, si fallo en amar, mis capacidades ilimitadas no valdrían absolutamente nada, a menos que tenga amor, no tendré absolutamente nada.
- “Y si repartiese todos mis bienes para dar de comer a los pobres, y si entregase mi cuerpo para ser quemado, y no tengo caridad, de nada me sirve” V. 3.
- a) Si diera todos mis bienes para poner comida en la boca del pobre, si entregase mi cuerpo para ser quemado, como dar la vida como un mártir así como Cristo, como Esteban y muchos más. Si el amor no está detrás de estos sacrificios, de nada me sirve. Si dejamos el amor fuera de la religión que profesamos, no importa que tan grande y costoso sea el sacrificio, de nada nos aprovecha. Amar es estar en posesión de la bendición eterna, el amor es la perfección del conocimiento. Dios es el objeto del amor, ya que comprende la complacencia en la contemplación de Sus perfecciones y la gratitud en la contemplación de Sus bendiciones, si no hacemos nada con este amor, es en vano.
II: El amor es lo que une las gloriosas virtudes de la vida cristiana, con el corazón.
- El amor es más importante que cualquier otra cosa por que dicta nuestro modo de hablar.
- “Hablemos la verdad en un espíritu de amor” – Efe. 4:15. Las lecciones que presentamos, las clases que presentemos, la plática casual en la tienda, en el parque, en el trabajo, y las respuestas de las preguntas de la esperanza que hay en nosotros de la fe que profesamos; 2 Cor. 2:4; 1 Pedro 3:15.
- “Sea vuestra palabra con gracia” – Col. 4:5-6. Debería ser la religión que profesamos una capaz de mostrar que la gracia de Dios está en nuestros corazones. Implicará nuestro discurso con el espíritu de la religión, que nuestra alma está bajo la influencia del amor al Redentor; Judas Vv. 22-23.
- El amor es más importante que cualquier otra cosa porque facilita el uso correcto de lo que tenemos.
- Si nosotros amamos, daremos comida y bebida a los que nos maltratan; Rom. 12:19-21; Luc. 6:35-36.
- Si amamos seremos hospitalarios, que es amor a los extranjeros; Heb. 13:1-2; Mateo 25:35-36, 40.
- Vamos a compartir con lo que padecen necesidad, porque nos importa; 1 Jn. 3:16-18; Efe. 4:28.
- El amor es más importante que cualquier otra cosa porque nos motiva a obedecer lo que Dios nos manda.
- “Pues este es el amor a Dios, que guardemos sus mandamientos; y sus mandamientos no son (gravosos) una carga” –1 Jn. 5:2-3. Si en verdad amamos a Dios, le obedeceremos en todo, sus mandamientos no nos serán pesados.
- “Y amarás al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón y con toda tu alma y con toda tu mente y con todas tus fuerzas” – Marcos 12:30. Si algo va a manifestar la sinceridad de nuestro amor a Dios, a Cristo, a los hermanos, es nuestra disposición para hacer la voluntad de Dios. Si algo va a poner a prueba la sinceridad de nuestro amor a Dios, a Cristo y a la iglesia, es la disposición de deshacernos, de dar eso que tanto queremos, o necesitamos, y ¿qué es eso? Usar correctamente lo que tenemos, si amamos a Dios nada le podremos negar.
- a) ¿Cómo podemos decir que amamos a Dios, si no obedecemos el mandamiento de predicar su palabra?
- b) ¿Cómo podemos decir que amamos a Dios, si dejamos de congregarnos?
- c) ¿Cómo podemos decir que amamos a Dios si no ofrendamos, o menospreciamos a Dios al hacerlo?
- d) ¿Cómo podemos decir que amamos a Dios, si no amamos su palabra? Salmo 119:97, 159, 165, 167.
Conclusión:
- Amar a Dios y al hombre no es solo cubrir todo, sino también unir y fortalecer todo; “Vestíos de amor porque es el perfecto lazo de unión” – Col. 3:12-14. Amar a Dios con todo el corazón, alma, mente y fuerza, y al prójimo como a uno mismo, es la perfección que requiere el nuevo pacto, y que la gracia y el Espíritu de Cristo funcionan en cada creyente sinceramente obediente y humilde; y ese mismo amor, que es el cumplimiento de la ley y la perfección misma que requiere el Evangelio, es también el vínculo de esa perfección. Amor engendra amor; y cuanto más ama un hombre a Dios y a su prójimo, más podremos aprender a amar como Dios ama.
- Es mi oración que nosotros le demos toda la atención posible al amor, y que con toda diligencia llenemos nuestro corazón de este amor. Recordemos que sin este amor todo lo que hagamos de nada nos servirá, todo lo que hagamos será en vano, porque sin este amor, nosotros nada somos. Las características del cristiano nos enseña que; En un mundo de incomprensión, el amor es sufrido. En un mundo de amargura, el amores benigno. En un mundo de rivalidades, el amor no tiene envidia. En un mundo de fama, honor y elogios, el amor no es jactancioso. En un mundo de orgullo, el amor no se envanece. En un mundo de descortesía, el amor no hace nada indebido. En un mundo de egoísmo, el amor no busca lo suyo. En un mundo de ira, de mal genio y de cólera, el amor no se irrita. En un mundo de hipocresía, el amor no guarda rencor. En un mundo de celos, el amor no se goza de la injusticia, más se goza de la verdad. En un mundo de cobardía, el amor todo lo sufre. En un mundo de desconfianza, el amor todo lo cree. En un mundo de pesimismo, el amor todo lo espera. En un mundo de persecución, el amor todo lo soporta.
