Introducción:
- Cuenta una leyenda oriental de un hombre que caminaba por la selva, cuando de repente se vio perseguido por una bestia feroz. Para librarse de ella el hombre huyó hasta que al fin pudo meterse dentro de un pozo seco. Pero cuál sería su sorpresa al ver que en el fondo del ese pozo estaba un dragón que habría sus enormes fauces y se lanzaba sobre el para devorarlo. Al verse en tal apuro el hombre se agarró de un pequeño árbol que crecía entre las grietas del pozo. Pero otra sorpresa lo aguardaba, vio a dos ratones uno blanco y otro negro que estaban ruñendo el tronco del árbol. Arriba rugía la bestia feroz, abajo el dragón que trataba de alcanzarlo, y en el tronco del árbol los dos ratones que pronto derribarían el árbol. En medio de ese peligro que lo rodeaba vio que en las hojas del árbol había unas cuantas gotas de miel, y con la mayor despreocupación, se puso golosamente a lamer las gotas de miel y así sello su propia suerte. Entre los orientales donde corre esta leyenda, se dice que la bestia feroz es el mundo de pecados y tentaciones que nos rodean. El dragón es la muerte que nos persigue como una sombra, los dos ratones son el día y la noche que van acortando nuestro paso por esta vida. Las gotas de miel son los placeres de este mundo, las muchas ocupaciones que nos abruman, los planes de divertirnos a los cuales nos entregamos golosamente y bien despreocupados, sin percatarnos del peligro que está cayendo sobre nosotros, ese peligro es la brevedad de la vida, o la proximidad de nuestra muerte.
- La Biblia en el Salmo 90, como en muchos textos más, nos invitan a reflexionar en la brevedad de la vida. Job también nos invita, las descripciones de la muerte son algunas de las imágenes más coloridas que se encuentran en la Biblia, en esta ocasión hablaremos de algunas de ellas que la Biblia menciona.
I: Figuras que la Biblia da de la brevedad de la vida…
- La muerte es…
- “Como un torrente” – Salmo 90:5. La idea es que en la muerte nos arrastra como si una inundación nos sacara de la tierra, llevándolos lejos sin importar el orden, rango, edad o condición. La muerte no hace discriminación, cada día que pasa, multitudes de todas las edades, son arrastradas y enviadas a la tumba, como lo sería si una tormenta furiosa se extendiera por la tierra con una furiosa rapidez y de corta duración.
- 2. “Como un sueño” – Salmo 90:5. Nada hay tan irreal ni tan fantástico como un sueño, en un sueño vivimos las más grandes aventuras sin movernos para nada de la cama. Nos invaden las pesadillas más horrendas y escalofriantes. A veces disfrutamos de los placeres más refinados, pero siempre es sueños, siempre en un mundo irreal. Un sueño es un espacio brevísimo de tiempo así es la muerte, muy breve.
- “Como la hierba” – Salmo 90:5-6. Dice David que la vida del ser humano sobre la tierra, es semejante a la hierba del campo. Dios uso a Isaías para que gritara al pueblo esta verdad, que la vida es desesperadamente breve; Isa. 40:6-8.
- “Como un pensamiento” – Salmo 90:9. No hay quizá una figura mejor que el pensamiento para ayudarnos a entender la brevedad de la vida. La rapidez del pensamiento permite que recorramos el mundo en un segundo, viajando en alas de la imaginación por los más apartados lugares. Decir que acabamos los años como un pensamiento, es decir que la vida humana vista desde arriba no dura más que segundos. El nacer, vivir y morir son tres episodios de duración limitada, aunque hablemos de ellos como toda una vida. Entre la cuna a la tumba, no hay más que un instante de tiempo, pero ese instante es preciso vivirlo plena-mente, intensamente, tal como quiere Dios. Quien no admira las bellezas existentes, difícilmente podrá gustar las bellezas del cielo. La tierra es el lugar donde se forman las almas en su preparación para la otra vida, pero aunque nuestra presencia sea fugaz en la vida, fugaz como un pensamiento, debemos vivirla sirviendo a Dios y preparándonos para el encuentro que un día tendremos con Él.
- “Como una sombra” – Job 14:1-2. Job nos enseña en su libro, que es uno de los más antiguos que tenemos en la Biblia que su vida paso tan rápida como una sombra. La idea de Job es que no hay sustancia, nada que sea permanente. Una sombra se mueve suave y silenciosamente, y pronto se va. No deja rastro de su ser, y no vuelve más. ¿Quién puede seguir su camino, quién puede alcanzarla? Así es nuestra vida, pronto pasará; como una sombre pasara sin dejar rastro de su paso, nuestro plazo de vida es muy breve.
- “Ciertamente es neblina” – Santiago 4:13-14. Santiago aquí compara nuestra vida a la neblina, y por medio de esta figura quiere enseñarnos dos cosas. Una, que nuestra presencia en la tierra es temporal, aparecemos y desaparecemos con la brevedad de la neblina. Y la otra, que en todo momento dependemos de Dios, quien puede llamarnos a su presencia cuando Él se lo proponga. La vida humana es así de corta, y su fría realidad es que llega en el momento menos esperado, lo sabemos pero no lo meditamos como deberíamos, y porque el día de la muerte no lo ponemos es nuestro corazón.
II: Los propósitos de nuestra vida…
- “Comer, beber y gozarse de su trabajo…” Ecle. 5:18-20; 2:24. Lo que se nos recomienda aquí, no es complacer los apetitos de la carne, sino moderadamente hacer uso de lo que la Providencia nos ha asignado para nuestra comodidad en nuestro paso a través de este mundo. No debemos matarnos a nosotros mismos con el trabajo, y luego dejarlo a otros para que se gocen de él, sino consolarnos de lo que han trabajado nuestras manos, todos los días de nuestra vida que Dios nos da, la vida es un regalo de Dios.
- “Goza de la vida con la mujer que amas” – Ecle. 9:9; Prov. 5:15-19. Disfruta la vida con la mujer que amas, disfruta de la experiencia de lo que la felicidad es, con la esposa de tu juventud. Cuantas relaciones han terminado entre los hijos de Dios por no obedecer estas palabras de Dios. Todo el que ha experimentado esta clase de ruptura de una relación conoce bien lo traumática que es. Es parecida a un tiempo de luto, cuando la persona a la que has amado es arrancada de tu lado, dejando un vacío doloroso que a menudo se llena de amargura y, sobre todo, de soledad. Se trata de una experiencia que te deja destrozado, por algún tiempo todo iba bien y de repente, todo nuestro mundo se derrumba. A veces el matrimonio no se viene abajo a consecuencia de alguna tentación sexual externa; sino que se va muriendo por dentro de manera imperceptible. El amor no termina de la noche a la mañana, se va transformando poco a poco en indiferencia mutua. El afecto se enfría, la comunicación se interrumpe, hasta que un día nos damos cuenta de que nos hemos vuelto extraños el uno para el otro; no hostiles, pero sí fríos; no enfadados, pero sí indiferentes, porque no se trata de un gran alud que se nos viene encima, sino de un lento proceso de enfriamiento. Cuando las relaciones se desintegran, no es por un temblor de tierra; pero el resultado puede ser igual de trágico y llevar a la ruina emocional. Puede que no le digamos a la otra persona que se vaya; pero nos distanciamos igual, y quizás incluso de manera más definitiva.
- “Teme a Dios y guarda sus mandamientos” – Ecle. 12:13. Salomón, después de dedicarse con sabiduría a buscar todo lo que se hace debajo del sol, de lo que es la vida del hombre. Propuso en su corazón agasajar su carne, no negarse de nada y de todo disfrutó; 1:12; 2:3. Al final dijo lo que había hallado; “teme a Dios y guarda sus mandamientos”. Esta es tu parte fundamental de tu breve vida aquí en la tierra, servir a Dios con reverencia, y obedecerle. Saber que si fe es imposible agradar a Dios y que Él recompensa a los que buscan. Conocerlo, obedecerle por lo que Él es y por todo que ha hecho y hace y por nosotros; “Amaras al Señor to Dios con todo tu corazón, con tu toda alma, mente y fuerzas”.
Conclusión:
Consideremos entonces la brevedad de la vida, hoy es un día hermoso, mañana se ira para siempre, «como un vapor, una neblina que aparece por un poco de tiempo». Puesto que esto es cierto, vivamos con nuestra pareja hoy recreándonos en su amor siempre, y dando gracias a Dios por nuestra familia, y si se nos conceden el mañana, podemos apreciar los recuerdos de ayer.
