“13Por tanto, ceñid los lomos de vuestro entendimiento, sed sobrios, y esperad por completo en la gracia que se os traerá cuando Jesucristo sea manifestado; 14como hijos obedientes, no os conforméis a los deseos que antes teníais estando en vuestra ignorancia; 15sino, como aquel que os llamó es santo, sed también vosotros santos en toda vuestra manera de vivir; 16porque escrito está: Sed santos, porque yo soy santo.”1 Pedro 1:13-16.

¿Qué significa la palabra sobriedad? Moderado, razonable. El apóstol Pedro usas dos veces mas esta palabra en su carta: “7Mas el fin de todas las cosas se acerca; sed, pues, sobrios, y velad en oración.” 1 Pedro 4:7; “8Sed sobrios, y velad; porque vuestro adversario el diablo, como león rugiente, anda alrededor buscando a quien devorar;” 1 Pedro 5:8.
El apóstol Pablo también enseño de esta cualidad: “6Por tanto, no durmamos como los demás, sino velemos y seamos sobrios. 7Pues los que duermen, de noche duermen, y los que se embriagan, de noche se embriagan. 8Pero nosotros, que somos del día, seamos sobrios, habiéndonos vestido con la coraza de fe y de amor, y con la esperanza de salvación como yelmo.” 1 Tesalonicenses 5:6-8.
Debemos de esperar y nunca perder la esperanza, como Pablo les enseño a los Gálatas: “9No nos cansemos, pues, de hacer bien; porque a su tiempo segaremos, si no desmayamos.” Gálatas 6:9.
Y como aconsejo Santiago: “7Por tanto, hermanos, tened paciencia hasta la venida del Señor. Mirad cómo el labrador espera el precioso fruto de la tierra, aguardando con paciencia hasta que reciba la lluvia temprana y la tardía. 8Tened también vosotros paciencia, y afirmad vuestros corazones; porque la venida del Señor se acerca.” Santiago 5:7-8.
Esa gracia llegara cuando Cristo venga por segunda vez: “7y a vosotros que sois atribulados, daros reposo con nosotros, cuando se manifieste el Señor Jesús desde el cielo con los ángeles de su poder,” 2 Tesalonicenses 1:7; “28así también Cristo fue ofrecido una sola vez para llevar los pecados de muchos; y aparecerá por segunda vez, sin relación con el pecado, para salvar a los que le esperan.” Hebreos 9:28.
Somos hijos de Dios si lo imitamos: “Sed, pues, imitadores de Dios como hijos amados.” Efesios 5:1. Pero tenemos que ser hijos obedientes: “9y habiendo sido perfeccionado, vino a ser autor de eterna salvación para todos los que le obedecen;” Hebreos 5:9.
Como cristianos no debemos de conformarnos al mundo: “2No os conforméis a este siglo, sino transformaos por medio de la renovación de vuestro entendimiento, para que comprobéis cuál sea la buena voluntad de Dios, agradable y perfecta.” Romanos 12:2.
Dios es santo y en EL no hay tinieblas: “5Este es el mensaje que hemos oído de él, y os anunciamos: Dios es luz, y no hay ningunas tinieblas en él.” 1 Juan 1:5. Y como somos sus hijos le vamos a imitar en la santidad: “1Así que, amados, puesto que tenemos tales promesas, limpiémonos de toda contaminación de carne y de espíritu, perfeccionando la santidad en el temor de Dios.” 2 Corintios 7:1; “3pues la voluntad de Dios es vuestra santificación; que os apartéis de fornicación;” 1 Tesalonicenses 4:3. Si no la tenemos no veremos al Señor: “14Seguid la paz con todos, y la santidad, sin la cual nadie verá al Señor.” Hebreos 12:14.
